Dear Maxie, I enjoyed your Magnum Opus - wish I thought of something
like this when I pulled out! Not fair to put the blame(?) on
Kaushal & Rajgopal & Shinghal, etall. - after all it's
what you made of the opportunities you were given that made
you the articulate, competent & very polished super-cop
we are all going to miss. Take care & all the best, Sunit

Subject: hello from Mathew, an old friend
"….while going thro ur 'bidding adieu' to ur life
in police, for friends like me who have been fairly closely associated
with u since our interview in madras in 1969 march, a lot of
memories are thrown up. ur commitment to work, helpful nature
,integrity, pride in work, friendliness always attracted people.
I always considered you more than a friend something like a
brother even if u may not like my saying so.i can recall ur
damad days in phillaur though not fully as were with u for a
few weeks only.signs were visible and you had spoken the rest.
Though i spent a parallel life in a different organisation meeting
u always in delhi and even in sikkim and mizoram(not in pondicherry)was
always apleasure which was easy as i also used to be posted
outside ,that too mostly in the south including in ur favourite
bangalore fo 2 years.
U had some bad luck in life esp about not getting in IPS directly
and also on the marriage front. If u had joined directly in IPS,u
would have retired as DGP of a CPO.but life is a mixture of
various items some of us are not lucky. take it that way that
in His actions there is a larger justice may not be easily visible
to us now
These are some of my thoughts when i recover from my coronary
bye pass. what r ur plans after retirement.i presume u will
be in gurgaon.pl give ur email and tel nos though i am verey
unlikely to visit delhi in the normal course. calicut, cochin, trivandrum, bangalore, madras, mumbai
and hyderabad may be the places i may have to frequent
As i am not well i dont want to add more. mary and i are always
obliged to you for all the help and kindness shown by you since
1969. i hope to meeet you in bangalore some time .may be we
can plan a trip to bangapore together when u have to do one.
our elder daughter is there. I hope to be in regular touch with
you thro email. We wish a very happy and enjoyable time in the
days to come . our prayers will be with you. Bye. Mathew"
